Two long distance paths through the village
Walking: the Waterliniepad and the Floris de Vijfde path
Two important walking paths run through Vreeland: the Floris de Vijfde path and, since 2004, the Waterliniepad. Both pass our door.
Vreeland has 68 national monuments, among them the Sint Nicolaas church of 1265-1275 and the Plantage country estate. Just outside the village stands the monumental Kazemat of 1935, part of the New Dutch Waterline, on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2021.
The village still has the shape of a bastide: a rectangular thirteenth century street plan, with the market on the main axis, today’s Breedstraat. That is where we are.
After the walk: a pancake, a soup of the season, or a warm apple pie by the wood stove.
